What is a Niche?
A niche is the animals job in the environment, it's relationship with other animals, and how it survives.
What job does a dolphin have?
-Dolphins control how many squids and fish there are in the ocean by eating them. If there were not any dolphins, than there would be way to many fish and squid. They would over populate.
How do they Survive?
-Their blubber helps protect them. It helps keep them warm even in freezing temperatures. It also helps them to swim fast and easily through the ocean. Blubber is a layer fat that is underneath the dolphins skin.
-Their long nose helps to defend them against sharks. It helps the dolphin to be able to kill a shark if a shark tries to kill it.
-Dolphins can warn each other if another animal like a shark is about to attack.
-Dolphins always have oxygen. When they dive, their heartbeats slow down. This helps the blood to flow to other parts of their body like their lungs, brain, and heart. They can also keep oxygen in their muscle tissue. They have protein in their muscle tissues that helps them keep oxygen.
-Dolphins gather air through their blowholes when they jump out of the water. They close their blowholes before they go back under water to trap the oxygen and to keep the water out.
-Dolphins capture their food by bouncing sound waves off their prey under water. This helps them to know what they have found. Then they use their teeth to catch the prey. They can also have other dolphins help them surround their prey in order to catch the prey.
